A perfect day to create a garden

Working with an inner city school in Leicester has been challenging, rewarding and great fun! The staff really came on board and generated inspirational ideas from our initial meeting – this lead to motivated and excited children who have taken ownership of their outdoor learning and play spaces!

Preparing the space- removing tall and unsightly shrubs

It was fantatsic to see the number of parents and community members arrive on Saturday to completely transform the outdoor spaces and to make the designs a reality! Raised beds were built to ensure the crops which the children are growing have the best start; bark chip was spread under the trees in readiness for the dens to be built and outdoor learning area to be developed, trees and shrubs were removed from an area previously unusuable to make an outdoor play kitchen; grass – which in winter is just a mud patch- was overlaid with gravel and logs to create a usable area; the compost bins were cleared in readiness for their new lease of life; wildlife areas were more accessible as the rubbish in front of them was moved… the list is endless. Phew! Image may contain: one or more people, sky and outdoor

The next phase will be equally as exciting, as  the reflectiive art space is created and the large outdoor classroom comes to fruition in the orchard area…

What an amazing team of staff, children, parents and grandparents at Barley Croft Primary School, Leicester.
