About Alison

Alison Langrick

Alison is a qualified Life and Performance Coach, with over 7 years of experience supporting individuals to reach their goals. She has a unique ability to discover the true potential in her clients and work with them to unlock their goals and desires for the life they wish to lead. Alison has decided to combine these coaching skills with her 30 + years of knowledge, passion and love of gardening to create a distinctive service for her clients.
Having worked across the world in different gardens and environments she is a natural enthusiast of living spaces. Based in Leicestershire, born in New Zealand, and having travelled around the globe, Alison decided to end her 20 year teaching career and follow her life-long passion for gardening. Having worked intermittently over the past 30 years in a variety of gardens, garden centres, and for designers, she realised that there was a gap in the market where people wanted to manage their own garden and build their personal confidence with gardening knowledge and techniques – Alison’s experiences have shown her just how much even ‘non-gardeners’ want the confidence to plant, weed and prune their own plot, without giving all the decisions to someone else, such as an employed gardener or designer. With her gently humorous personality, Alison has instilled in many ‘gardeners’ the confidence needed to move from the sofa to the potting shed in just a few sessions!
Alison uses a plethora of creative and exciting ideas and activities to motivate and inspire the inner gardener in us all.

Gardening Experience

Alison became inspired by and curious about gardening from a very young age. Growing up in the South Island of New Zealand, her family home had just over half an acre, surrounded by hillside and near the sea – wild flowers grew along the cliff faces and exotic plants thrived, even in the clay soils. She watched her British father transform their backyard into a walnut grove, with fruits and vegetables needing tending and care. Her travels to the UK meant she was quickly introduced to the cottage gardens, herbaceous borders and luscious lawns of the English countryside. Finding work in stately homes meant that the gardens were more formal and the kitchen gardens had a variety of herbs as well as the annual cycle of vegetables and fruits. Learning techniques in pruning and plant care was not only hands-on, but Alison gained a Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture, whilst living back in Christchurch, New Zealand – working part-time for a rose grower and full time for the MAFF Horticultural division. Completing private gardening contracts over the years has meant Alison’s knowledge of plants and how they develop is substantial – often referring to Latin names rather than their more popular, common titles of plants. She has taken time to visit several famous gardens for inspiration and has developed a variety of school gardens within her teaching career.
Inspiring designs is one of the developments which Alison has found to be a great personal pleasure. Taking ideas from architecture, sculpture, photography, and landscapes has meant that Alison includes something unique and different for each of her gardens to suit the brief of her clients. Beginning informal designs and planting plans back in the early 1990’s meant that Alison’s experience and understanding of space and place will help you to create the particular environment you wish for.
